God fills our emptiness
the second verse in the bible describes how the earth was “empty” and then describes how God starts filling it with life. a few verses later God creates man and charges him to “fill the earth”. the prophet jeremiah said that God made the world to be filled with life, not to be a place of empty chaos. over and over in the bible we see God filling the emptiness of humanity. God fills the emptiness of the poor widow’s jars with oil. Jesus fills the emptiness of the multitude by feeding them (and there were even left overs). the Holy Spirit shows up and fills every single Christ follower in the early church. so, i’m convinced that God will fill the emptiness that we currently see and feel at the summit church. i see our emptiness as an opportunity for God to move. he is moving, he is faithful, he is starting to fill us - soon we will overflow.
here is an update on what has happened in the past few days:
- story the oc register did on us: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/church-trailer-turner-2179466-irvine-one
- we were on several local news channels today (ch 2, ch 9 and ch 5) - hope to provide links soon
- we had a fantastic (low tech) service filled with God’s presence and first-time guests.
- the oasis christian center in los angeles gave us about $10,000 worth of road cases, speakers, cables and a bunch of other sweet stuff.
- destiny church in las vegas is sending us a generous check.
- 2 local sound professionals are lending us all the gear we need for a month or so.
- other churches are praying and seeing what they can do for us.
- our lawyer (that is working for us free of charge) is making some serious progress in our insurance claim.
- we launched project restore at the summit yesterday: http://thesummitoc.com/videoView.aspx?viewvideoguid=c7106808-0a13-40e5-bd2e-f35ab5a0c60d&parentnavigationid=2820
I’ll get the videos on our site tonight! Great interviews Pastor Scott…
One day we’ll look back and say that this was one of the milestones in the church; for good reason, not bad. Saw the TV spot on kcal9.com…we’re so ‘rock and roll’.
I’m sure you have gone through legal channels and are paying full royalties for use of the Chili Pepper music. I know that because a religious organization would never steal, that is a sin. Isn’t it?
Bro! So proud of you… this is the right way to respond!
Way to go.

Sufferwords - The video falls in the “fair use” category according to the US Government. We aren’t selling the video or making a profit. The spot was :29 seconds and thats how long the song was used…and we are a non profit organization. So we didn’t have to pay royalty fees to use the song. You’re right about stealing being a sin! Maybe you should let the guys that hijacked our trailer aware of that.
Hello Scott,
This is your college friend, Christine. I guess when I moved back to the deep south it was to deep to know where many of us grew from college. So, I was a little behind on you and your brother becoming pastors! That is fantastic and it was a pleasure to read you current blog about emptiness and helpful.
God Bless
Pastor Scott!!! I cannot believe all of this happened. It’s just totally crazy. I have been out of town and out of the blogosphere for a little while but I am going to read all these articles to get the full scoop. Our prayers are with you guys.
So glad to see you blogging. Killer!
Turner!! Hey bro, it’s Shane. I’m kinda late to all the things that have been happening since we had breakfast in OC. So sorry for everthing that has happened but so happy that the church and the community is rallying around you. What a great testimony this is turning out to be.
I love the blog! What a great resource. I plan to visit this site often. Have a great day my friend.
Cheers!
